Revised description. Small, slender fusiform shell; apical angle ~42–60°. Protoconch high conical of 2.5 smooth, convex whorls. Teleoconch of up to five whorls. Suture strongly incised, shallowly undulating. Early teleoconch whorls convex with shallow subsutural ramp, moderately convex periphery. Axial sculpture of up to 15 narrow axial ribs overrun by weak cord on subsutural ramp and two prominent cords along periphery, forming weak nodes at intersections. Last whorl attaining ~77% of total height, with broad, straight-sided subsutural ramp, angled shoulder, convex periphery, strongly constricted at base. Axial ribs weak, forming weak nodes along shoulder. Spiral sculpture: first whorl, P1 and P2; second whorl, IP (on subsutural ramp), P1 and P2; third whorl, IP, P1, s1, P2 and s2; fourth whorl, adis, IP, abis, P1, s1, P2 and s2; fifth whorl: adis, IP, abis on the subsutural ramp, P1 (along shoulder most prominent) to P6 and s1 to s6 on convex part of whorl, ADP to EAB2 and ads, ms, abs on siphonal canal. Fasciole subobsolete. Aperture narrowly pyriform. Outer lip thin, with crenulated edge, smooth within. Anal canal indistinct. Siphonal canal very long, open, slightly twisted. Columella broadly excavated, smooth, slightly twisted at siphonal canal. Columellar callus forming weak, adherent rim.
Discussion. The slender shape and long siphonal canal suggest placement in Gracilipurpura . The shell of Gracilipurpura polonica ( Bałuk, 1995) differs from the extant Mediterranean Gracilipurpura craticulata ( Bucquoy & Dautzenberg, 1882) in its slenderer shape and less prominent axial ribs. The protoconch of Gracilipurpura craticulata consists of 1.5 whorls with a large globose nucleus, differing distinctly from the conical protoconch of 2.5 whorls in Gracilipurpura polonica .
Although Gracilipurpura polonica ( Bałuk, 1995) has rarely been reported from Paratethyan assemblages, it had a wide paleogeographic distribution. Landau et al. (2013) recorded it also from the Serravallian of Turkey, showing specimens with identical protoconch morphology as the Polish type specimens.
Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Korytnica Basin: Korytnica ( Bałuk 1995); Krka Basin: Dolenja Brezovica ( Slovenia) ( Mikuž 2009).
Proto-Mediterranean Sea. Serravallian (Middle Miocene): Karaman Basin: Lale, Akboğaz, Akpınar, Seyithasan ( Turkey) ( Landau et al. 2013).
