Frontina spinigera Rondani, 1861 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 37 (key), 38 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino parmensi [ Parmese Apennines ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing left fore- and right mid-legs, the other its mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 15): Brachicheta R. / spinigera Rnd. , ♀ / 775.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Brachichaeta strigata ( Meigen, 1824) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 256, Cerretti 2010: 287).
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 38) described Frontina spinigera from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being two specimens in the type series found in this study: “ Semel capta foemina [The female collected once]”. We consider the two specimens as syntypes. Rondani placed this nominal species under the subgenus Brachicheta Rondani, 1861 , which is now considered as a valid genus ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 40).
