Strepsidura ficulneus ( Holten, 1802) View in CoL
Fasciolaria ficulnea m.—Pusch 1837: 145, pl. 12, figs 8a–b.
Discussion. Pusch (1837) described and illustrated a specimen of Strepsidura ficulneus ( Holten, 1802) . Although Pusch (1837) gave Varivtsi (= Warowce) ( Ukraine), in the Fore-Carpathian Basin as locality, the specimen surely derived from the Eocene of the Paris Basin, where it is commonly found, whereas it is unknown from any Miocene basin. During the 19 th century French Eocene specimens were intensivle exchanged with other European museums and collections. Such misplacements were not unusual at that time as documented also by the description of a recent Tridacna from the Miocene of the Carpathian Foredeep by Pusch (1837) (see Harzhauser et al. 2008) and by the description of a misplaced Eocene Campanile giganteum ( Lamarck, 1804) by Andrzejowski (1833) and Pusch (1837) from the same Eastern European region.
