Evacanthus distinctus View in CoL sp. nov.
Figs 2 E–F View FIGURES 2 , 4 V View FIGURES 4 , 25 A–F View FIGURES25 .
Coloration of male similar to that in E. repexus (see below) with pale brown forewings but without white longitudinal stripes; female paler than male, face brownish, lateral area of pronotum pale brown.
Head narrower than pronotum. Disc of crown wrinkled and not polished. Forewing veins prominently raised paler, with three additional m-cu cross veins.
Male genitalia. Pygofer height less than length in lateral view; dorsal margin almost straight in middle half and then curved ventrally, posterior membranous lobe finger-like, ventral process thin slightly longer than pygofer lobe. Subgenital plate, style and connective as in generic description. Aedeagus stout with dorsolateral lobe rounded, its processes elongate with truncate distal margin, shorter than shaft; ventral extension of atrium elongate, ventral margin of aedeagus without prominent angular projection, but uneven, in posteroventral view bulbous at base, process of dorsolateral lobes short not reaching shaft apex; shaft robust, almost straight, with dorsal pair of pigmented short processes and lateral short projections at midlength, apex flared; gonopore apical.
Female genitalia. Seventh sternite with posterior margin slightly sinuate.
Measurements. Male 6.3 mm long, 1.5 mm wide across eyes and 1.6 mm wide across hind margins of pronotum. Female 6.9 mm long, 1.6 mm wide across eyes and 1.7 mm wide across hind margins of pronotum.
Material examined. Holotype ♂, INDIA: Himachal Pradesh: 19 Km S Manali, 1500 m, 11.x.1979, Ghorpade ( UASB) . Paratypes, 1 ♀, same data as holotype ( UASB) .
Remarks. This species can readily be distinguished from other species of Evacanthus from the subcontinent by the unpolished, wrinkled disc of the crown and by the peculiar shape of the aedeagus.
