* Eupithecia bastelbergeri Dietze, 1910 View in CoL
( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 9 – 16 )
Eup[ithecia] bastelbergeri Dietze, 1910 , Biologie der Eupithecien 1: pl. 73, fig. 360. Syntypes 2♀ (coll. K. Dietze in MNHU; examined), Turkestan [ Kyrgyzstan]: Naryn; Karagai-tau.
E[upithecia] bastelbergeri korvaci Prout, 1938, in Seitz, The Macrolepidoptera of the World, 4 (Suppl.): 188. Syntypes 3♀ (BMNH; examined), [ Turkey]: Kurdistan, Malatya.
A generally small species (but of variable size) in the “ haworthiata ” group. Very small specimens from Kurdistan ( Turkey) were described as subsp. korvaci Prout, 1938, but similar specimens have also been collected in Turkmenistan. In our opinion, korvaci is not a good subspecies but simply a small form, since normal-sized specimens are also found in Turkmenistan along with very small specimens. E. bastelbergeri flies from mid-June to early August, and perhaps early September. Larvae were found on Clematis orientalis L. ( Ranunculaceae ) in October ( Tajikistan: Degtjareva, 1973). It is likely that eggs are laid in the seed-balls of this foodplant because the females have elongate and heavily sclerotized papillae anales. This species occurs in Turkey, Caucasus (Daghestan), Turkmenistan (Kopet-Dagh Mts.), Uzbekistan, S. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. A new species for the fauna of Mongolia. The male and female genitalia of this species were first described and illustrated in Viidalepp (1988).
Material examined. 1♂, W. Mongolia, Khovd aimag, Uenchin-Gol Valley, 50 km N of Uench vill., 1500 m, 6.vii.2007, V.V. Anikin leg., Mironov slide no. 884♂ ( ZISP).
