Euconnus (Tetramelus) paravulgaris Franz View in CoL , stat. rev.

Euconnus (Anthicimorphus) paravulgaris Franz (1986b): 247 View in CoL .

Horaeomorphus paravulgaris (Franz) View in CoL ; Jałoszyński (2014b): 12 (result of placing Anthicimorphus as junior synonym of Horaeomorphus View in CoL ).

Remarks. This species was described on the basis of a single and incomplete specimen (with distal portions of antennae missing). The holotype is deposited in Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris and was not available for my study. This species is supposedly most similar to Euconnus (Tetramelus) vulgaris , including a similarly shaped median lobe of the aedeagus (illustrated in Franz (1986b): fig. 220). However, because the ventral structures were not described, a placement in Euconnus is tentative, aimed at removing from the Australo-Oriental Horaeomorphus all extralimital species that currently make it non-monophyletic.

Distribution. Madagascar (exact locality unknown; the only label data given by Franz (1986b) is “Madag. Perrier”).

Subgenus Euconnus s. str.

Remarks. Euconnus s. str. is still unclearly delimited and it may in future include some other currently recognized subgenera. It is defined by: hypostomal ridges running posteromesally; head ventrally without median longitudinal ‘gular groove’; pronotum lacking hypomeral grooves; pronotum broadest at middle, behind middle or with lateral margins parallel in posterior half, if broadest at middle and equally narrowing anteriorly and posteriorly, and if also lacking antebasal pits, then antennae with clubs; antennal club in males not trimerous, or, if trimerous, then not asymmetrically modified; antennomeres 10 and 11 in males not asymmetrically modified ( Jałoszyński 2022).

One Malagasy species misplaced in Horaeomorphus is putatively transferred to Euconnus s. str.
