KEY TO THE NORTH AMERICAN SPECIES OF EUCERATOCERUS LECONTE View in CoL
As a corrected key has not been published, anyone using the key in White (1966) without reading White (1974) will misidentify specimens and generate confusion regarding the biology of Euceratocerus species. I have therefore created an updated key to Euceratocerus View in CoL that has been modified from White (1966) following suggestions in White (1974).The dorsal illustration of E. argenteus ( Fig. 18 View Fig ) is from White (1975), and illustrations of male antennae of the remaining three species ( Fig. 10 View Fig ) are from White (1974). Illustrations of the antennae of female E. gibbifrons and E. hornii ( Fig. 11 View Fig ) are from Fall (1905) and White (1971), respectively. I have updated the range of E. gibbifrons to include Kentucky, North Carolina, and Oklahoma and have also suggested that E. gibbifrons probably occurs throughout much of the eastern United States. Given ranges should be used cautiously to assist with identification when specimens occur in or near Texas. The Results and Discussion section should be read prior to use of this key to understand the complex and tentative definitions of E. gibbifrons and E. hornii and their ranges.
