Encyclia silvana Castro Neto & Campacci (2003: 22) . Type:— BRAZIL. Bahia: Porto Seguro , 100 m, September 1999, Silva s.n. (holotype: SP 363183 !).
Epiphytic herbs, 10.6−11.5 cm tall. Pseudobulbs conical, 2.0−2.8 × 0.9−1.0 cm. Leaves 1, oblanceolate to oblong, obtuse to acute, 8.0−12.0 × 1.1 cm. Inflorescence a densely 3–5-flowered, simple to compound raceme; peduncle 6.5−7.5 cm long; rachis 2.0− 5.5 cm long. Flowers with pedicel c. 1.7 × 0.2 cm, warty; sepals yellow to greenish, the dorsal oblong to lanceolate, 1.1−1.2 × 0.3−0.5 cm, laterals oblong to lanceolate, 1.2−1.3 × 0.3 cm, pendent, margin entire, apex acute; petals yellow to greenish, subspatulate, acute, 1.1−1.2 × 0.2−0.4 cm, pendent, margin entire; lip unguiculate, the claw 0.10−0.15 × 0.20−0.30 cm, lateral lobes ensiform, acute, free from the midlobe, 0.7 × 0.1−0.2 cm, yellow to greenish, at a ˂45° angle to the midlobe (in the flattened lip), not overlapping it, margin entire, midlobe rounded to elliptic, obtuse, 0.4−0.5 × 0.4−0.6 cm, yellow to greenish, flat, margin gently undulate, callus cymbiform, apex of the callus acute; column clavate, 0.6−0.9 × 0.2−0.3 cm, clinandrium apex tridentate, lateral teeth rounded to triangular, apex acute, arms of the column quadrate, obtuse, c. 0.1 × 0.15 cm,; stigma triangular, with basal hooks; anther one, intense yellow, c. 0.1 × 0.2 cm.
Distribution and habitat:— Endemic to the Atlantic Forest in the Northeast ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ).
Phenology:— Flowering August–February.
Etymology:— The epithet honours the collector of the type material, Erwin Bohnke.
Taxonomic notes:— Encyclia bohnkiana is often confused with E. chloroleuca , but the latter is much taller (ca. 35 cm) than E. bohnkiana (ca. 15 cm). Moreover, there are differences in distribution; E. chloroleuca is an Amazonian species, whereas E. bohnkiana is endemic to the Atlantic Rainforest in the Northeast. Bastos et al. (2016) synonymised E. silvana under E. bohnkiana based on continuity of morphology and distribution; the former seems to be an autogamous form of the latter.
