Empoasca (Empoasca) dendritica Qin & Liu View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Figs.1–9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ; 73–76)
Type materials. China: holotype: 1 3, Mengla (21° 28’ 33” N, 101° 34’ 03” E), Yunnan Prov., 31 August 2005, 660m, coll. Meng Li; paratypes: 1 3, same data as holotype; 1 3, Mengla, Yunnan Prov., 16 December 1999, 700m, coll. Daozheng Qin; 1 3 2 Ƥ, Mengla, Yunnan Prov., 15 December 1999, 700m, coll. Dworakowska (all in NWAFU).
Length: 3 2.3 mm.
Ground color of body yellow-greenish (fig. 76). Crown with light green patch on each side of coronal suture (fig. 73). Eyes brown. Pronotum with irregular patches on anterior margin of pronotum and under eyes. Forewing and hindwing semitransparent. Abdomen light yellow. Legs light yellow to green (fig. 75).
Ventral abdominal apodemes well developed, nearly reaching segment 5, parallel-sided to broadly rounded apices (fig. 4). Pygofer in lateral view broadly rounded on posterior margin, ornamented with 8–10 rigid setae distributed from outer to inner face of pygofer (fig. 1); pygofer appendage in lateral view curved dorsad to follow posterior margin of pygofer, but usually extending just beyond pygofer, basal portion not expanded significantly dorsad, tapering to apex (fig. 2). Anal appendage stout, swollen distinctly at mid-length, smooth (fig. 3). Subgenital plate in lateral view, curved gradually caudodorsad apically, not expanded apically, tapering to rounded apex; with numerous macrosetae and fine setae somewhat irregularly scattered; dorsolateral margin with 4–5 long stout setae subbasally, 16–18 short microsetae on apical half (fig. 9). Paramere with 8 teeth on dentifer, 5–7 setae subapically (fig. 8). Connective broad, anterior margin medially emarginate. Aedeagus in lateral view with preatrium long, pair of branched process arising from atrium below shaft, tapered to acute apex (figs. 6, 7). Gonopore terminal.
Etymology. The species name is derived from “ dendritica ” which refers to the branch-like processes located at the base of the aedeagus shaft.
Distribution. China (Yunnan).
Diagnosis. The new species is similar to Empoasca linnavuoriorum Dworakowska, 1972 . It differs in having a pair of branched processes arising from base of the aedeagus shaft, and the anal appendage stout, distinctly swollen medially, and smooth.
