DESCRIPTION. — Greyish brown species with dense scaling and standing out white or pink squamiform setae on interstriae and in striae, characterised by the following features combined: rostrum impressed along middle, without a carina or smooth line; prementum with one or two pairs of setae; upper area of prothoracic sides slightly compress; basal one-fifth of interstria 5 distinctly raised followed by slight depression; apical processes not projecting beyond apical elytral margin, reduced to simple swellings or low calli; granules on elytra absent except for some on suture and laterodorsal carina.
Length: 8.0-10.0 mm.
TYPE MATERIAL. — One of the original specimens was labelled as ‘type’, others as ’cotypes’ by Marshall (1938). Holotype male, 8.3 x 4.2 mm, ‘ New Hebrides, Santo Island, Hog Harbour, VII.1925, Elytrurus santicolus Mshl , type, P A Buxton, NHML. Paratypes: five with NHML. Other identified specimens with NHML, NZAC .
MATERIAL EXAMINED. — Vanuatu. Espíritu Santo. Nine specimens.
ETYMOLOGY. — The epithet ‘santícolus’ for occurring on Espíritu Santo I.
REMARKS. — Other ‘cotypes’, deposited with the Oxford University Museum, are not present.
