Echinomya apicalis Rondani, 1848 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1848b: 75.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Nouvelle-Grenade, régions froides [ Nueva Granada (= high mountains of the northern Cordillera), cold regions]” ( Macquart 1846: 272) [type locality for Echinomya analis Macquart, 1846 ].
TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks.
CURRENT STATUS: Guimarães (1971) did not list it; O’Hara considered it doubtful species of Tachinidae (J.E. O’Hara, pers. comm., August 2014).
REMARKS: Fabricius (1805: 311) and Meigen (1824: 290) described two different species under the same name, Tachina analis . Rondani (1848b: 75) moved Tachina analis , without specifying of which author, to the genus Echinomya Latreille, 1805 , where there was already a species with the same name described by Macquart (1846: 272), and consequently proposed the new replacement name Echinomya apicalis for Echinomyia analis Macquart, 1846 . The type material for Echinomya apicalis will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Echinomyia analis . There is no type of this latter species in the MHNL (O. Boilly, pers. comm., 2019), MNHN (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020) or OUMNH (Z. Simmons, pers. comm., 2019) where Macquart’s collection is preserved.
