Anthicus dravidiacus nom. nov.

Notes

Pic (1910) described Anthicus (Aulacoderus) sefrensis var. postnotatus from " Égypte " [= Egypt]. This variety, simply listed by Pic (1911: 72, as Anthicus (Aulacoderus) sefrensis var. postnotatus ), was inadvertently synonymized with the nominate form by Winkler (1927: 850, as A. (Aulacoderus) sefrensis a. postnotatus ), and by Alfieri (1976: 151, as Aulocoderus [sic!] sefrensis var. postnotatus ). Both treated it as an infrasubspecific name, while it was treated as a subspecies by Schatzmayr & Koch (1934: 236, as Anthicus (Aulacoderus) sefrensis ssp. postnotatus ). Hille (1984: 159), in his revision of Aulacoderus LaFerté- Sénectère, 1849, overlooked this taxon, but the above synonymy was recently adopted ( Uhmann et al. 2005). Aulacoderus was first treated as a distinct genus by Pic (1897c: 125), but has been erratically treated as a subgenus or as a valid genus, and is now recognized as a valid genus (cf. Chandler et al. 2004). Pic (1943a) described the homonym Authicus postnotatus from "Indes Mér." [= southern India], which is known only from the original description. The replacement name Anthicus dravidiacus nom. nov. is proposed for this species, and is based on a Latinized adjective for Dravidian, referring to one of the most numerous peoples of southern India.

Notes

Pic (1943b) first described Anthicus flavicolor from "Indes Mér." [= southern India], and later ( Pic 1943c) created a junior primary homonym describing A. flavicolor from " Malacca " ( Malaysia). Pic (1951) proposed Anthicus flavicoloratus as a new replacement name for the homonymous Malayan species. Later, Pic (1952b) proposed again the same replacement name for the same homonym, so the above new synonymy is here established. Both species are known only on the basis of the original descriptions.

Tajikistan: southern Tajikistan, Tygrovaya Balka reserve, 31.VII-8.VIII.2000, Perepechaenko leg., 1 ɗ ( CGN).

Notes

This is the first record for Tajikistan. It has been previously recorded from Armenia (without further details) ( Pic 1911; Winkler 1927, in both cases as Anthicus thyreocephalus var.? Korbi ), "Araxestal" [= valley of the Arax river] ( Armenia or Azerbaijan) ( Krekich-Strassoldo 1928: 108), Azerbaijan ( Uhmann 1985, 1990b), "Caucasus", Georgia ( Uhmann 1985), southern European Russia ( Nardi 2004c), Iran ( Uhmann 1996a), Iraq, "Transcaspien" ( Uhmann 1985), Asiatic Turkey ( Pic 1902: 10, as " Anthicus Korbi (? v. de thyreocephalus Sols. ) "), and Turkmenistan ( Krekich-Strassoldo 1928). The general citations for Russia ( Telnov 2007a) and southern European Russia ( Nardi 2004c) are based on an unpublished record from the northern Caspian Sea coast (D. Chandler, pers. comm.). The new record is the easternmost for this species. This species was described from " Armenie russe: Kasikoporan", a locality currently belonging to Asiatic Turkey (cf. Danilevsky 2004), not to Armenia ( Uhmann 1985). The above-mentioned citations for Armenia and those for "Armen. ros. [= Russian Armenia]" ( Reitter 1906, as A. thyerocephalus a. Korbi ) very probably refer to the type locality.

Notes

This species is known from most of southern Europe, Maghreb, Turkey, Syria, and Jordan (cf. Nardi 2004c; Uhmann et al. 2005). In the global distribution of this species, Bucciarelli (1961: 125) listed also the Caucasus (without further detail), but later he ( Bucciarelli 1980) and all other authors did not include this region. The above listed old specimens suggest a possible occurrence of this species in the Caucasian countries.
