Type locality. Sicily, Palermo, Lago di Piana degli Albanesi (Fig. 175).

Diagnosis. A medium-sized Dodomeira (3.40–4.00 mm) belonging to the pfisteri group with slender body (length/width ratio: 1.67–1.70) and cylindrical elytra shape. Within the species group, it is recognisable by less elongate but parallel elytra, rostrum with divergent sides towards the apex, and vertex wide and convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.90) with visible fovea. Sizes: pronotum (length: 0.70–0.90 mm, width: 0.85– 1.00 mm, ratio 0.88–0.90), elytra (length: 2.20–2.50 mm, width: 1.30–1.50 mm, ratio 1.67–1.70).

Type series. Holotype female with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♀ // [white, printed] “ Italia, Sicilia, PA[Palermo], Lago di Piana [degli] Albanesi, 630m, 19.III.2015, leg. Aless. Paladini” // [green, printed] “Collezione Cesare Bellò” // [red, printed] “ Dodomeira paladinii sp. n., Holotype, det. Bellò 2016 ” ( CBE).

Paratypes. 6 females: “ Italia, Sicilia, PA, Lago di Piana Albanesi , 630m, 19.III.2015, leg. Aless. Paladini ” ( CBE, CBA, ECO, GOS) ; 3 females: “ Italia, Sicilia, Palermo, Piana degli Albanesi , 19.III.2015, leg. Colacurcio L. ” ( CBE) ; 15 females: “ Italia, Sicilia, PA, Lago di Piana Albanesi , 630m, 19.III.2015, leg. Aless. Paladini ” ( APA). Types are 25 (all females).

Holotype. Female. Total length: 3.40 mm .. Slender body with elytra almost elongate, cylindrical, and parallel. Dorsal vestiture with very imbricate, brownish scales with metallic sheen.

Rostrum covered by brownish scales, transverse (length/width ratio 0.85), conical to the sides but with divergent sides towards the apex. Pterygia protruding from the rostrum. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum slightly concave, anteriorly with twelve/fourteen thin, curved, semi-erect setae. Vertex wide and convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.90) with several, elongate, widened-clavate, raised setae. Interocular space with visible fovea.

Lateral, large, convex eyes protruding from outline of head. Antenna quite robust and short with recumbent, golden-silvery, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.70 (scape length: 0.70 mm, funicle length: 1.00 mm). Scape clubbed, short, more robust than funicle, curved at the basal third and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 10.4.3.3.3.3.3.15; first five segments with widened setae silvery; segments 5–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, short, fusiform with suture between first and second segment visible.

Pronotum clothed with brownish scales, transverse (length: 0.75 mm, width: 0.85 mm, ratio: 0.88), slightly sub-conical, slightly sinuate, with maximum width in the middle, as wide at base as its anterior margin, with short, widened-clavate, golden raised setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum visible.

Elytra (length: 2.20 mm, width: 1.30 mm, ratio: 1.70) vaulted dorsally, cylindrical, parallel, covered by brownish scales, with flat suture, wider at the middle. Elytral declivity with clavate-spatulate raised setae (30°– 45°). Punctation of striae, shallow, catenulate and impressed. Interstriae flat, with clavate, elongate, golden, raised setae. Humeri short and rounded.

Legs quite elongate and slender clothed by golden-brown scales and rather short, widened golden setae. Femora little clubbed. Protibia with two-three acute spines on inner edge, with mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia quite sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and short.

Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 95 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 134 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ). Genitalia were examined in six specimens.

Paratype variability. All paratypes are females and differs only in size.

Distribution. See Fig. 141. Italian endemic. Known only from type locality.

Etymology. This species named after our friend and colleague Paladini (Alessandro) weevils specialist, in appreciation of his cooperation in our study on Peritelini and for his uncommon ability in research of Curculionidae .

Ecology and Phenology. Collected D. paladinii under stones near the Lake “Piana degli Albanesi” (Paladini p. comm.), at 600–700 meters.

Main soil type. Calcaro-Vertic-Cambisol (Rendzina) (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).

Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known from 25 females.
