Dissomphalus guidonae Brito & Azevedo , sp. nov.
( Figs 1C View FIGURE 1 , 4F View FIGURE 4 )
Diagnosis. This species is easily recognized by having the aedeagal ventral valve with apex very narrow and curved laterad, the basivolsella without protuberance, the aedeagal dorsal body elongated almost bottle-shaped and the margin of the basal cover plate broadly rounded.
Description. Head. Mandible with two distal teeth. Median clypeal lobe trapezoidal, with one angulate tooth; median clypeal carina low in profile, complete or nearly so, straight in profile or nearly so. Frons weakly coriaceous, punctures large and sparse. Vertex crest straight or nearly so. Dorsal pronotal area with anterior margin coarse. Tergal process submedian, consisting of tuft with few setae, without depression. Posterior hypopygeal margin straight or nearly so. Genitalia. Harpe entirely wide, apical margin rounded, and abaxial margin not projected; gonostipes same size or nearly so, ventral margin not excavated until outer margin of basivolsella; digitus short, basidorsal corner strongly projected; basivolsella without protuberance, without spines; aedeagal ventral valve with apex anterior to apex of dorsal one, wide, abruptly narrowing apicad; inner margin sinuous; outer margin slightly sinuous, curved laterad; aedeagal dorsal valve bottle-shaped or nearly so, with two pairs of apical lobe; outer lobe long, very narrow, apical margin rounded and ventrad; apex of inner median filament anterior to apex of lobe, directed posterad; basal cover plate entirely narrow, posterior margin slightly incurved medially; apodeme extending beyond genital ring.
Material examined. Holotype, 1♂: PERU, Huanuco, Cord. Azul, 39 km NE Tingo, Maria , 1700m montane rain for., Trap site 672, 11–14.I.1983, A. Newton & M. Thayer ( CNCI).
Distribution. Peru.
Etymology. This species is named after Niède Guidon, one of the greatest archeologists of the world.
Remarks. It is similar to D. soniae sp. nov. by having the harpe narrow, the apex of inner median filament anterior to apex aedeagal dorsal outer lobes, and the aedeagal ventral valve very slender. However, D. guidonae sp. nov. has the outer lobes long, and the basal cover plate narrow with posterior margin broadly rounded, whereas D. soniae sp. nov. has the aedeagal outer lobes not too long, and the basal cover plate wide with posterior margin straight.
