Veronica anagallis-aquatica , V.anagalloides & V.catenata occupied highest level of evolution due to the following advanced characters viz. four sepals, the sepal marginal, petal supply arising from vascular complexes, one sepal four-traced and the remaining ones three-traced,four petals, two staminal traces, two lateral carpellary bundles, presence of ventral cord and non-vascularized nectary disc.
