Dasymutilla lachesis Mickel, 1966 . Pan-Pacific Ent. 42:338. Holotype female, 45 mi. North of San Ignacio, Lower California, 27 July 1938 (Michelbacher and Ross) [CASC] (examined).
Diagnosis of Female (Plate C5L). This species can be diagnosed by the following combination of characters, including coloration. The antennal scrobe of this species is not at all carinate, nor is there a genal carina. It has the mesosoma slightly longer than broad, and lacks a scutellar scale. This female is characterized by long, brilliant orange to scarlet setae on terga II through IV, contrasting the white setae on the remainder of the body.
Male. Unknown.
Distribution. Mexico (Baja California Norte and Sur).
Remarks. This species is known only from the female. However, its male is very likely the male newly described here as D. loreto Manley and Pitts. It is known from only about a half dozen specimens. All known specimens have been examined.
