Cyrtopholis plumosa Franganillo, 1931 View in CoL
( Figs 1–9 View FIGURES 1–4 View FIGURES 5–9 )
Cyrtopholis plumosa Franganillo, 1931: 171 View in CoL .
Type-material: Lectotype female ( IES 33 A, herein designated) from Yunque de Baracoa (2035’S 7457’W), province of Guantanamo, Cuba . Paralectotype female ( IES 33 B) same data as the lectotype .
Note: The vial with collection number IES 33 contains two female specimens: the large female (IES 33A) has an egg sac with more than one hundred first–instar juveniles and is here redescribed. Franganillo mentioned that he collected numerous females with egg sacs in a palm tree (Yaguas de palma), however, only two specimens were located (IES 33A and IES 33B).
Diagnosis: Cyrtopholis plumosa can be distinguished from the other species by the aspect of spermathecae, which has a small lateral branch on the median portion of each receptacle and a subapical constriction ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5–9 ). C. gibbosa also has a lateral branch in the receptacles ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 20–24 ), but is about half the size found in C. plumosa . The posterior sigilla are rounded and away from margin ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5–9 ). Labium with few cuspules (13) ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5–9 ), similar to C. ramsi (less than 30). The name of the species refers to the presence of plumose hairs on trochanter of palp and first leg, but this character is present in all species of the genus. Absence of projection on cephalothorax (hump–like projection) ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20–24 ), present in C. gibbosa , C. regibbosa and C. bryantae .
Redescription: Lectotype female (IES 33A). Color (in ethanol 70%): carapace brown ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5–9 ). Abdomen brown ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5–9 ), sternum and legs brown. Total length: 36.5. Carapace ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5–9 ): length 16.3, width 13.0, fovea straight ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5–9 ). Clypeus narrow 0.1. Eye tubercle ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 5–9 ): length 1.5, width 3.1. Anterior and posterior eyes row recurved ( Fig 8 View FIGURES 5–9 ). Eyes sizes: AME 0.35, ALE 0.30, PME 0.25, PLE 0.30. Basal segments of chelicerae with 13 teeth each. Labium ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5–9 ) length 1.3, width 3.0. Sternum elongated ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5–9 ) length 8.5, width 5.5. Sternal sigilla rounded anterior and median near margin; posterior distant from margin ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5–9 ). Labium ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5–9 ) with 13 cuspules. Maxillae with 63–57 (left–right) cuspules. Spination of legs and palp. Tarsi without spines. Palp: femur: v0, p0, r0; patella: v0, p0, r0; tibia: v0, p0, r0. Leg I: femur: v0, p0, r0; patella: v0, p0, r0; tibia v0–0–1–0, p0, r0; metatarsus v0–0–1, p0, r0. Leg II: femur: v0, p0, r0; patella: v0, p0, r0; tibia v0–1–1–0, p0–0–1–0, r0; metatarsus v0–1–1, p0, r0–0–1. Leg III: femur: v0, p0, r0; patella: v0, p0, r0; tibia v0–1–2, p0–1–0, r0–1–0; metatarsus v0–1–3, p0–1–1, r0–1–1. Leg IV: femur: v0, p0, r0; patella: v0, p0, r0; tibia: v0–1–1–1–1, p0, r0–1–1–0–0; metatarsus v0–2–2–2–1–0, p0–0–0–0–0–1, r0–0–1–0–1–2. Tarsal scopula: undivided on all tarsi and extended to metatarsi. Scopula on metatarsi: I full length, II 3/4, III apical 1/4, IV absent. Spermathecae ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5–9 ) composed of two receptacles with strong subapical constriction with small lateral branch on midlength of each receptacle. Abdomen ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 5–9 ): urticating setae type I and type III present.
Males: unknown.
