Type locality. Tairua.

Broun number: 553.

Type material examined. 1 ex. Holotype ( NHM): card-mounted, “ Cyphanus laticeps \ Type D. S. \ Tairua, Broun” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “Tairua, \ New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun.”, “Sharp Coll \ 1906-313.”, “ Type \ H. T.” [round label with red margin].

Remarks. Sharp (1878) received this species from Captain Broun, who sent specimens from Tairua to Wakefield and Sharp himself.
