Cymodocea australis Hodgson, 1902 , Cymodoce australis Richardson, 1906 , and Cymodoce multidens var. australis Baker, 1928 [ Sphaeromatidae ]

Remarks: Cymodoce australis Richardson, 1906 is a primary junior homonym of Cymodoce australis Hodgson, 1902 (originally as Cymodocea australis but Cymodocea is an incorrect subsequent spelling of Cymodoce ). Both names are currently valid taxa within Cymodoce and a comparison of the descriptions and illustrations of the two species shows that they are not conspecific. Therefore, Richardson’s name needs to be replaced and Cymodoce harrietae nom. nov., in honor of Harriet Richardson (1874–1958), is herein proposed. Cymodoce multidens var. australis Baker, 1928 is also a primary homonym of Cymodoce australis Hodgson, 1902 but cannot be replaced without an application to the ICZN, as the current name for the taxon is in a different genus, as Oxinasphaera australis ( Baker, 1928) (IZCN Article 23.9.5).
