Subgenus 1. Cylactis (Raf.) Focke (1877: 95) .
Perennial herbaceous plants, less often subshrubs, with creeping rhizomes and roots, annual stems, without or with prickles. Stipules free or slightly attached to the petiole base, wide or linear. Filaments flattened. Receptacle flat or convex, drupelets easily separating from the receptacle or connected. Stone smooth or slightly wrinkled.

Perennial herbaceous plants with creeping rhizomes and roots. Stems annual, without prickles or with acicular prickles. Stems of two kinds: barren stems creeping, rooting, flowering stems erect. Leaves usually 3-foliolate.
