Type Locality: Panama, Darién Province, Cerro Pirre, near head of Río Limón, 4500 ft. (1400 m).

Vernacular Names: Darien Small-eared Shrew.

Synonyms: Cryptotis merus Goldman 1912 .

Distribution: Highlands along the Panama-Colombia border.

Discussion: C. nigrescens group. Revised by Woodman and Timm (1993).
