Habit and distribution.

Shrubs; upland forests of Madagascar (Antananarivo, Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Mahajanga, Toamasina, Toliara).

Notes.

Both Croton nitidulus var. microphyllus and C. nitidulus var. pubescens from high elevations in the Marojejy massif are smaller-leaved plants than most other specimens of C. macrobuxus . They should be studied in further detail to determine if they should be recognized as a distinct, related species.
