Pistillate flowers sepals with imbricate aestivation, usually united at least half of their length, not fleshy; disk entire. Fruits subglobose, usually trigonal.

Species of Croton subsection Spruceani occur somewhat disjunctly in moist habitats of central and northwestern South America, Central America up to central Mexico, and then in semideciduous forests of eastern Bolivia, central Peru and Brazil ( Caruzo et al. 2011).
