Coryptilus indicus Gibson View in CoL
Figs 16–31.
Coryptilus indicus Gibson 1995: 188–189 View in CoL . Holotype ♀, BMNH, not examined. Type locality: India, Karnataka, Bangalore.
Type material examined. Paratypes 2♀. INDIA: Karnataka, Bangalore , 916m, 8–14.v.1986, K. Ghorpade / PARATYPE Coryptilus indicus Gibson (1♀ CNC, no. 2017-19) ; Kerala, C. U. [Calicut University] campus, Anil, 2.12.88 / A387 / PARATYPE Coryptilus indicus Gibson (1♀ CNC, no. 2017-17) .
Distribution. India.
Remarks. We did not examine the holotype of C. indicus , but we did examine a paratype from the type locality (imaged here as specimen 2017-19). We also examined a second paratype that is the only specimen (2017-17) known from a locality other than the type locality. The species is not re-described by us, but both examined paratypes are illustrated (Figs 16–23 and 24–31) to show the colour and details not present in the SEM images that accompanied the original description. Females of C. indicus are very similar to those of C. circalatus but differ in the shape of the fore wing, colour of the mesosoma, and sculpture of the metasomal tergites as outlined in the key and under C. circalatus . Also, all known specimens of C. indicus are somewhat brachypterous whereas in C. circalatus most specimens have longer wings, with only three specimens with wings similarly short as in C. indicus . However, the short wings of C. indicus have an incurved posteroapical margin and a prominent posterior angle (Figs 22, 30), while in C. circalatus the shortened wings have a straight posteroapical margin and hence the posterior angle is not conspicuously prominent (Fig. 13).
