Corynoneura longiantenna sp. n.

( Figs 21–22)

Type material. Holotype male with larval and pupal exuviae, BRAZIL, SP, São Carlos , UFSCar, Arroio do Fazzari, 19.v.2011, S. Wiedenbrug . Paratype: male with larval and pupal exuviae, SP, Luis Antônio , Estação Ecológica do Jataí, Represa Beija Flor, ( UFSCAR SW 130 ), 24.ix.2011, Luís Aparecido Joaquim .

Diagnostic characters. The male of C. longiantenna sp. n. can be differentiated from other species with phallapodeme attachment placed in the caudal apex of sternapodeme and apex of hind tibia with a s-shaped seta by the antenna plumose with 10 flagellomeres, superior volsella low only with one long seta, aedeagal lobe triangular basally narrow and long. The pupa can not be differentiated from C. hermanni and C. humbertoi sp. n., it has rounded anal lobe separated through a straight perpendicular margin wider than half of the lobe width, shagreen on tergites fine and homogeneous. The larva is recognized by the mentum with two median teeth, first lateral teeth adpressed to median teeth. Antenna longer than 720 µm. Second antennal segment longer than the third and about half as long as the first, or shorter.

Etymology. The specific epithet is named in reference to the long antenna of the larvae.

Description

Male (n = 2)

Total length 0.83 mm. Wing length 0.54–0.69 mm.

Color. Thorax brownish. Abdominal tergites I–IV whitish, V–IX brownish. Legs whitish.

Head. AR = 0.41–0.47. Antenna with 10 flagellomeres, apical flagellomere 97–130 µm ( Fig. 21 A). Flagellomeres with more than one row of setae each. Eyes pubescent.

Thorax. Antepronotal lobes dorsally tapering.

Wing. Clavus/wing length 0.21–0.22. Anal lobe absent.

Legs. Hind tibial scale 35–45 µm long, with one s-seta ( Fig. 21 B, C).

Hypopygium ( Figs 21 D, E). Tergite IX with 4 setae. Laterosternite IX with 1 seta. Superior volsella small rounded with one long seta. Inferior volsella low and apical. Aedeagal lobe long with narrow base. Transverse sternapodeme rounded, orally straight, phallapodeme caudal attached. Phallapodeme with posterior margin sclerotized, slightly curved.

Metric and meristic features in Table 1.

Pupa (n = 2)

Total length 1.23–1.66 mm.

Color (exuviae). Cephalothorax light grey, abdomen transparent except greyish muscle markings, lateral margin and anal lobe.

Cephalothorax. Frontal apotome slightly rugose. Thorax suture smooth except scutal tubercle region rugose. All Dc-setae thin taeniate. Dc 1 displaced ventrally. Wing sheaths with up to four rows of pearls or apparently absent.

Abdomen ( Figs 22 A–C). Sternites I, II and tergite I bare, tergite II with few small shagreen points, shagreen on tergites III–IX fine, quite homogeneous. Sternites III–VIII with fine shagreen. Conjunctives SIII/IV-SVII/VIII with small spinules. Segment I with 1, II with 3 L-setae and III–VIII with 4 long taeniate L-setae. Anal lobe rounded ( Fig. 22 B). Anal lobe with fringe not complete, 3 taeniate macrosetae and inner setae taeniate.

Metric and meristic features in Table 3.

Larva (n = 1–2)

Head. Postmentum 215–245 µm long. Head capsule integument smooth. Mentum with two median teeth, first lateral teeth small and adpressed to median, five additional lateral teeth ( Fig. 22 E). Antenna 722–745 µm long, segments two and three slightly darker. First segment longer than postmentum length ( Fig. 22 D).

Abdomen. Ventral setae modified, wider apically split ( Fig. 22 F). Subbasal seta on posterior parapod serrated at the base and both margins ( Fig. 22 G).

Metric and meristic features in Table 4.

Remarks. The larva of C. longiantenna sp. n. was collected with artificial substrate (leaves) at a slow flowing lowland stream and also in a reservoir in São Paulo State, Brazil.
