Cicada clarisona Hancock, 1834 nomen nudum, revised status

Cicada clarisona Hancock 1834: 20 (Georgetown, British Guiana).

Remarks. Metcalf (1963b) lists Cicada clarisona Hancock, 1834 as a valid species in his list of species of uncertain position in the genus Cicada Linnaeus, 1758 . However, Hancock (1834) lists only the name, location, and information on the acoustic behavior of the species. The lack of any description or other indication as outlined under the Code in this publication means the name is unavailable under Article 12 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 1999). Therefore, the status of the species is hereby revised to a nomen nudum to become Cicada clarisona Hancock, 1834 nomen nudum, revised status. Since the species is now unavailable, it is removed from the cicada fauna of Guyana.
