Type locality: CHINA, Yunnan Province, Jinping County, Shilicun Town.
Type material. Holotype male, CHINA: Yunnan Province, Jinping County, Shilicun Town, Shaoka , grassland, 22°46’28.4”, 103°17’49.3”, 1960 m, 16.XII.2003, coll. H. B. Liang & Kataev Boris. ( IZ-CAS). GoogleMaps Paratype: CHINA: Yunnan Province: 1 male, Jinping County, Fenshuiling, Leidazhan, road side, 22°51’41.0”, 103°13’40.5”, 2060 m, 17.XII.2003, coll. H. B. Liang & Kataev Boris. (IZ-CAS).
Measurements. Body length: 18.2–16.5 mm. CL: 0.81; EL: 3.32; ELS: 1.61; EW: 3.48; HL: 2.28; HW: 2.67; PO: 0.95; PL: 2.77; PW: 2.48.
Description. Relatively large sized species. Body elongate, black; head and pronotum with slightly brassy sheen; elytra slightly paler, dark reddish-brown, with points of brownish tomentose pubescence on middle of lateral sides; maxillary and labial palpi dark brunneous; antennae with basal three segments black; segment 4 and outer segments of antennae distinctly paler and tending to be gray (note: these paler segments of both holotype and paratype seem to be attached with some white powder-like substances which are hard to remove, and it is unknown whether they are naturally from the specimens or man-made); legs black, with tibia and tarsus covered with dense brownish pubescence; pubescence of dorsal surface of head, pronotum and elytra dark brown, combined with some yellowish-brown pubescence especially on lateral sides of head; pubescence on abdominal tergites black, also combined with some yellowish-brown pubescence.
Head of rounded quadrangular shape, with almost parallel lateral sides and obtusely rounded posterior angles, wider than long (ratio 1.17); eyes moderately large and slightly protruding, shorter than tempora (ratio 0.85) in dorsal view; punctation and pubescence on dorsal surface of head dense, punctation robust, gradually becoming sparser toward clypeus, with shiny interspaces; interspaces without microsculpture. Y-shaped epicranial line almost totally disappeared on holotype and only basal part of that vaguely present on paratype. Antennae relatively long, segment 3 distinctly longer than segment 2 (ratio 1.42), segments 4 to 9 distinctly longer than wide, gradually becoming shorter, segment 10 about as long as wide, last segment about as wide as segment 10. Pronotum longer than wide (ratio 1.12), shield-like, almost evenly narrowed toward posterior margin, with widely rounded posterior angles; anterior half slightly wider; narrow marginal groove disappearing downwards at posterior fourth of pronotal length; impunctate midline only clearly present on posterior half; punctation and pubescence on disc about same as that on dorsal surface of head, interspace without microsculpture. Scutellum finely punctate and setose on entire surface, totally black. Elytra moderately long, elytral length distinctly shorter (ratio 0.58) along suture but longer (ratio 1.20) along sides than pronotum along midline, slightly dilated posteriad; elytral punctation fine and dense, granulose, slightly shining; pubescence dark reddish-brown, with patches of dark brownish tomentose pubescence on middle of lateral sides. Wings fully developed. Abdomen without pale apical seam of palisade setae. Abdominal tergite 2 only punctate and pubescent along posterior margin; all visible abdominal tergites finely and densely punctate and pubescent, and decorated with some small points of brown tomentose pubescence near apical margins or on other parts; visible tergites 1 to 3 each with a patch of black tomentose pubescence; visible tergite 4 with a large patch of golden yellowish tomentose pubescence in middle.
Male. Abdominal sternite 8 with moderately wide and relatively deep medioapical emargination. Sternite 9 moderately long, widest at about middle portion, gradually narrowed toward both apical and basal part, with tapered basal portion long and wide, shaped as in Fig. 4-2 E. Tergite 10 shovel-like, shaped as in Fig. 4-2 D, sparsely setose. Aedeagus elongate, with knife-like apex in lateral view, shaped as in Figs. 4-1 B, C, 4-2 A–C; paramere elongate and simple, without sensory peg setae, shaped as in Figs. 4-1 D, 4-2 E.
Female. Unknown.
Distribution. Miobdelus chrysochromatus He and Zhou , sp. nov. is at present known only from the type locality in southern Yunnan Province.
Notes. Miobdelus chrysochromatus He and Zhou , sp. nov. is most similar to Miobdelus brevipennis Sharp, 1889 in general habitus and shape of aedeagus, but M. brevipennis has much smaller body size, much shorter elytra and less developed wings; the aedeagus of M. brevipennis , though similar to M. chrysochromatus He and Zhou , sp. nov., bears a much wider and robust paramere than that of the latter. In addition, these two species have totally different geographic distributions: M. brevipennis is at present known only from Japan and South Korea.
Etymology. The species epithet chrysochromatus is composed of Greek terms, chrys- (golden, beautiful) and chroma- (or chromat-, color, colorful, good colored), to indicates the remarkable golden-haired mark on the abdomen.
