Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Glyphidodon biocellatus by Peters (1877: 843); reported from St. Mathias as Glyphidodon antjerius by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 67), and from New Ireland as Abudefduf biocellata by Munro (1958: 230); a specimen observed at Kulaumis Island, Kavieng District, 1–10 m depth, St. T17, on 4 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen. ZMH material.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 4.—General distribution: East Africa east to Caroline Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on coral rubble, or on outcrops of coastal and lagoon reefs, 0–5 m depth. Marine.
