Cephennomicrus tsurui View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs. 18 View FIGURES 15 – 20 , 27, 28, 47, 52)

Type material. Holotype: TAIWAN: 3, " Taiwan, Nantou Hsien, Dehuashe, Tuch Hsiang, 8–11 IV 2004, F.I.T., Tomoyuki TSURU leg." (white, printed) ( NSMT). Paratypes: TAIWAN: 233, same data as the holotype ( PCPJ).

Diagnosis. Body over 1.15 mm in length; frons, vertex and pronotal disc with large and dense punctures; sides of pronotum nearly straight, not constricted; lateral margin of each elytron with 3 very long setae; aedeagus with long and broad central complex, simple median duct, basal loop present, median loop broadly open.

Description. BL 1.16–1.23 (1.20). Body of male ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 15 – 20 ) moderately stout, pigmentation dark reddishbrown, vestiture yellowish.

Head ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 45 – 49 ) large, HL 0.16–0.17 (0.17), HW 0.27–0.30 (0.29); vertex and frons convex, rounded together; frontal glands ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 50 – 55 ) distinctly larger than single ommatidium, each located near internal anterior margin of eye; eyes large, coarsely faceted, moderately convex. Punctation on frons and vertex composed of unevenly, densely distributed, large and deep, sharply marked punctures, distances between punctures on median part of vertex are as long as 1– 2 x puncture diameter; setae extremely short, sparse, nearly recumbent. Antennae relatively short, moderately compact, AnL 0.52; antennomere I about 1.6x as long as broad; II slightly narrower and shorter than I, 1.6x as long as broad; III much narrower than II and 1.1x as long as broad; IV–VI each about as narrow as III and gradually longer, from 1.2 to 1.3x as long as broad; VII as narrow as VI but minimally longer, about 1.4x as long as broad; VIII as narrow as VII and distinctly shorter, 1.3x as long as broad; IX slightly broader and much longer than VIII, 1.6x as long as broad; X slightly longer and much broader than IX, slightly broader than long; XI as broad as X but distinctly longer, 1.2x as long as broad.

Pronotum subrectangular in shape, broadest between anterior fourth and third; PL 0.35, PW 0.47–0.49 (0.48); anterior margin broadly rounded; sides strongly rounded in anterior fourth, distinctly but finely serrate, from anterior fourth to near base straight or slightly rounded, not constricted, slightly convergent toward blunt, slightly obtuse hind angles; posterior margin with broad and shallow lateral and short median emarginations; base of pronotum with four relatively small but deep pits forming two lateral pairs, distance between internal pits of each pair is longer than 1/3 width of pronotum. Punctation of pronotal disc composed of moderately large, deep and sharply marked punctures distributed moderately densely and very unevenly, in central part of disc punctures are separated by spaces as long as 1– 3 x puncture diameter. Basic vestiture very short, moderately sparse, nearly recumbent; additionally pronotum bears three pairs of very long and strongly erect setae located on lateral margins near broadest place, near hind angles, and in median part of posterior margin.

Elytra oval, broadest near anterior third, EL 0.65–0.71 (0.68), EW 0.54–0.60 (0.57), EI 1.18–1.20. Each humeral callus is delimited from internal part of elytron by deep and narrow basal impression running posteriorly and toward lateral margin of elytron; apices of elytra separately rounded. Punctation much finer than that on pronotum, composed of very small, shallow and indistinctly marked punctures; vestiture slightly sparser than that on pronotum and composed of slightly shorter, nearly recumbent setae; additionally lateral margin of each elytron is provided with three extremely long, strongly erect setae located near humerus, in broadest place and slightly posterior to middle. Hind wings well developed.

Legs long and slender, pro- and metatibiae straight, mesotibiae slightly recurved.

Metaventrite with extremely small median tubercle.

Aedeagus (Figs. 27, 28) large, AeL 0.32; internal armature complicated, with long and broad central complex surrounding simple, narrow median duct; basal loop present, median loop broadly open; parameres with slender apices, nearly reaching apex of median lobe, each paramere bears two short apical setae.

Female unknown.

Distribution. Central Taiwan: Nantou County.

Etymology. The name is dedicated to Mr. Tomoyuki Tsuru, a Japanese coleopterist who has collected this and other new species of Cephennomicrus .

Remarks. Cephennomicrus tsurui is the only member of the taiwanensis group with very large and dense punctures covering the frons and vertex; it is also the largest Cephennomicrus of Taiwan.
