According to Won et al. (2009), Mediterranean records of Centroceras clavulatum are misidentifications of Centroceras gasparrinii (Meneghini) Kützing and/or Centroceras micracanthum Kützing , while Centroceras clavulatum is restricted to the Pacific Ocean. Consequently,
the Cypriot records of Centroceras clavulatum by Cirik et al. (2000) and Taşkın et al. (2013) most probably belong to another taxon and require re-examination.
