Centris flavicollis Friese, 1924 View in CoL

Centris maerens var. flavicollis Friese, 1924: 21 View in CoL .

Type data: This variety was proposed based apparently on a single male specimen collected by Burgdorf in “Villa Rica”, Paraguay. The holotype is housed at ZMB and it has the following data label: Paraguay Villa Rica 1900 Burgdorf [printed]\ C. maerens v. flavicollis n. Fr ♂ [handwritten]\ 1909 Friese det. [printed]\ [red label] Type [printed]\ [red label] Typus [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed]\ Zool. Mus. Berlin [printed with blue ink] ( ZMB) .

Type locality: Paraguay, Guairá department: Villarrica (“Villa Rica”) .

Comment: Friese (1924) described this species as a variety of C. moerens (Perty, 1833) , a member of the subgenus C. (Ptilotopus). Moure et al. (2007) followed Friese (1924) and cited it in that subgenus in the Catalogue of Bees in the Neotropical Region. The detailed study of the holotype showed that C. flavicollis is a member of the subgenus C. (Melanocentris) and not related to Perty’s species or with any other of C. (Ptilotopus).
