Centris claripennis Friese, 1901 View in CoL

Centris bimaculata var. claripennis Friese, 1901: 347 View in CoL .

Type data: This variety was described from a single female supposedly collected in São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. The holotype is housed at ZMB and it has the following data label: Brasil S. Paulo 1897 [printed]\ Centris claripennis View in CoL n. sp. ♀ [handwritten] 1900 Friese det. [printed]\ [red label] Type [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed]\ [white label] C. (Paremisia) fuscata Lep., 1841 View in CoL [handwritten with blue ink]\ [white label with red lateral margins] HOLOTYPE [printed] Centris bimaculata claripennis Friese, 1900 View in CoL [handwritten] (ZMB).

Type locality: Actually , this species does not occur in Brazil. It has been recorded in Colombia and Venezuela in northern South America , as well as in Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean ( Vivallo 2020). Its presence in São Paulo is evidently a labeling error .

Comment: This species is senior synonym of C. carrikeri Cockerell, 1919 . Centris bimaculata claripennis was proposed as junior synonym of C. fuscata Lepeletier, 1841 ( Moure et al. 2007) but it was recently revalidated and raised at species level ( Vivallo 2020).
