Cebus flavius ( Schreber, 1799) View in CoL . Blond capuchin

Simia flavia Schreber, 1799 :pl. 31B. Plate only. Neotype (designated by Oliveira & Langguth, 2006:7): Universidade Federal de Paraíba (UFPB) 5091, from “ BRAZIL: PERNAMBUCO: Municipality of Goiana, Usina Maravilha, Corrego do Inferno (7°28’35.95”S, 34°59’4.85”W).”

Cercopithecus flavus Goldfuss, 1809:74 . Name combination and unjustified emendation of Simia flavia Schreber. Preoccupied by Cercopithecus flavus Boddaert (1785:59 ; see above).

Cebus fulvus Humboldt in Humboldt & Bonpland, 1812:356 . Nomen nudum, but from context, a reference to Cebus flavus É. Geoffroy (see below).

Cebus flavus É. Geoffroy, 1812:112 . Name combination and incorrect subsequent spelling of Simia flavia Schreber. A specimen in the Paris Museum may have formed part of Geoffroy’s concept of this species, but as an incorrect subsequent spelling this name is unavailable and cannot have a type specimen (cf. discussion in Hershkovitz, 1949:340–341; Oliveira & Langguth, 2006:3–4). Used as a valid name by Elliot (1913:93).

Cebus fulvus Desmarest, 1820:83 . Unjustified emendation of Cebus flavus É. Geoffroy, 1812 . Preoccupied by Simia Sapajus trepidus fulvus Kerr (1792:77) , a Cebus View in CoL (see Hershkovitz, 1949:341).

Cebos queirozi Mendes Pontes & Malta in Mendes Pontes et al., 2006:2. Holotype: a released specimen, from “Lowland tropical rainforest and Montrichardia linina swamps of the Usina Salgado, Municipality of Ipojuca, State of Pernambuco, Brazil.” Argued to be unavailable by Oliveira & Langguth (2006:15–16), but see discussion in Dubois & Nemésio (2007:8–9).

Sapajus flavius: Lynch Alfaro et al., 2012:277 View in CoL . Name combination.

In summary, Cebus flavius (Schreber) View in CoL was published in 1799, not 1774, but it remains the oldest available name for the blond capuchin.
