Cataclysme conturbata sternecki Prout, 1938 , in Seitz, Macrolepidop. World 4 (Suppl.): 171. Cataclysme sternecki Prout : Xue and Zhu, 1999, Fauna Sinica, Insecta 15: 761 (stat. nov.)
Type material. Lectotype ɞ, here designated, “Peking, Westberge, Exp. Stötzner, Joicey Bequest, Brit. Mus. 1934–120, Cataclysme conturbata sternecki ɞ type Prout, Rothschild Bequest B.M. 1939–1” in BMNH.
Diagnosis. P. sternecki (wingspan 25-26mm) is externally similar to P. conturbata in facies, agreeing especially in the transverse, white postmedial lines on underside, but this feature is also present in P. subfasciata and, a bit different, in P. hreblayi . All three species agree also in the strongly pectinated male antennae. P. sternecki can be distinguished from conturbata by the smaller wingspan and the postmedial lines on underside being distinct and rather narrow. Moreover, the genitalia of sternecki can be easily distinguished by the bifurcated, U-shaped uncus, the short and blunt costal process and a small, folded saccular process in male. In the female genitalia, the golf-club shaped sterigma-plates are similar to those of P. hreblayi , but the latter has a larger signum and longer posterior apophyses.
