Carolia (Parinomya) parinensis Olsson 1928 , 20, pl. 3, figs. 1 – 4.

Remarks

Carolia peruviana Olsson, 1928 is found in northern Peru in the uppermost lower Eocene Chacra Formation, whereas C. parinensis , recognisable by the rasplike overlapping foliated layers of its ventral exterior margin, occurs rarely in the Chacra Formation but is commonly found in the underlying sandstones of the upper lower Eocene Pariñas Formation, a lithostratigraphic unit known for large shipworm-bored tree-trunks and cerithioid gastropods (Olsson 1928). In the Caballas Formation, C. parinensis occurs as external moulds on the attachment scars of Ostrea sechura .

Material

All specimens are external moulds on attachment scars of Ambigostrea sechura from locality B8769. UWBM 107569, H (22.9), on A. sechura ( UWBM 107559); UWBM 107570, H (15.3), on A. sechura ( UWBM 107560); MUSM INV 243, H (11.7), on A. sechura ( MUSM INV 237).

Occurrence

Lower Eocene, Pariñas and Chacra formations, Talara Basin, northern Peru; Lower Paleogene, Cuenca Member, Caballas Formation, East Pisco Basin, southern Peru.
