Diplazium andinum (Pacheco & R.C.Moran) M.Kessler & A.R.Sm., Brittonia View in CoL 59(2): 197. 2007.
= Callipteris andina Pacheco & R.C.Moran, Brittonia 51(4): 351, f. 8. 1999.
Range: — Ecuador to Bolivia (CO, LP).
Ecology: —Uncommon; terrestrial in humid forests, often near streams; 800–1650 m, elsewhere to 2200 m.
Notes: —The basal petiole scales are retiform, i.e., net-like with only the perpendicular cell walls present, a character apparently shared only by D. hians among the Bolivian species. Petioles, costae, and costules are usually glabrous adaxially, but in some specimens are sparsely to moderately pubescent with spreading, delicate, multicellular hairs 0.5 mm long. Also variable in indusial characters (mostly entire, but sometimes erose-ciliolate). Possibly, this species may represent a complex of closely related species; further study needed.
