Cainocreadium lintoni ( Siddiqi & Cable, 1960) Durio & Manter, 1968 View in CoL
Synonyms: Hamacreadium lintoni Siddiqi & Cable, 1960 .
Records. From the Nassau grouper, Epinephelus striatus (Bloch) , and the coney, Cephalopholis fulva (Linnaeus) [as C. fulvus (Linnaeus) ] ( Serranidae ) off Puerto Rico by Siddiqi & Cable (1960). From E. striatus off Puerto Rico by Dyer et al. (1985). From the graysby, Cephalopholis cruentata (Lacépède) [as Epinephelus cruentatus (Lacépède) ], E. striatus and Haemulon sciurus off Puerto Rico by Dyer et al. (1992). From the red grouper, Epinephelus morio (Valenciennes) off St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands by Andres et al. (2014).
Remarks. This species was described based on three specimens. The genital pore is medial and the excretory vesicle extends to the intestinal bifurcation. The combination proposed by Durio & Manter (1968) has been recognised by subsequent authors ( Dyer et al. 1985; Bray & Cribb 1989) and supported with molecular analyses ( Andres et al. 2014). In their review of the parasite fauna of Lutjanus griseus, Argáez-García et al. (2010) cite reports of C. lintoni in that fish by Siddiqi & Cable (1960) and Dyer et al. (1985). This appears to be a mistake, as neither study lists that fish as a host.
