Brachysomus hegyessyi Yunakov, 2006: 300 . Type locality: Hungary, Bodrogszegi.

Description. Measurements: Body length 2.10–2.70 mm, width 1.15–1.50 mm, in holotype body length 2.23 and 1.30 mm, respectively. Vestiture: Elytra sparsely covered with white or light grey, short, narrow-lanceolate, slightly C-shaped scales and long, spine-shaped, erect setae, those as long as interstriae wide. Head and pronotum more densely covered with scales and shorter setae. Antennae and legs covered with weakly widened and blunted apically thick setae. Colouration: Body mid- to dark brown, shiny, antennae and legs yellow to light brown, head mostly dark brown to black.

Head: Rostrum as long as wide, parallel-sided, outline in line with temples. Antennal sockets distinctly visible in dorsal view. Pterygia weakly projecting from outline of rostrum. Antennal scrobes sharply developed and deep, directed to ventral margin of eye, reaching ventral side of rostrum. Epistome flat, delimited from epifrons by thin U-shaped carina. Epifrons strongly narrowed at basal 1/3, parallel-sided from midlength to apex, weakly convex longitudinally, without carina, with shallow median longitudinal sulcus, without transverse depression. Vertex flat, finely longitudinally punctate. Eyes oval (in males VW/ELD = 1.66–1.86), strongly convex, highest at middle. Antennae: Scape gently curved, strongly widened along distal 1/3; funicular antennomeres: 1st (L/W=1.40) and 2nd (L/W = 1.25) elongate; 3rd moniliform, 4 th –7th weakly transverse; club broad, spindle-shaped.

Thorax: Pronotum strongly transverse [PL/PW = 0.65–0.69 (0.67)], widest at middle, strongly and evenly convex at disc and sides, noticeably constricted anteriorly and posteriorly, densely, shallowly punctate, disc without lateral depressions. Elytra: narrow- or broadly-oval (EL/EW in males = 1.36–1.40; in females = 1.31–1.34), strongly convex at disc and sides. Interstriae of elytra weakly convex, 3.5x wider than striae. Punctures well separated; spaces between punctures very weakly concave, somewhat narrower than diameter of puncture. Legs: Fore tibiae straight, with apical external angle not protruding. Hind tibiae with dense brush of short, light, thin hairs, with small mucro. Second tarsomere transverse (L/W =0.57). Fifth fore tarsomere extending beyond apical lobes of 3rd by 0.60 length of the lobes.

Abdomen: First ventrite with posterior margin weakly sinuate. Male 5th ventrite with weak depression, sinuate, with scattered pale hairs. 5th ventrite in female evenly convex at middle, posterior margin narrowly rounded. Male genitalia: Aedeagus heavily sclerotized through entire length; median lobe as long as apodemes, evenly narrowed apically, apex acute. Endophallus with robust elongate spiculae. Ventral membranes rounded, slightly sclerotized. Parameres 0.5x as long as width of tegmenal ring, posterior margin of basal piece straight. Spermatheca: ramus and collum connate at base; collum swollen, 2x as long as ramus.

Diagnosis. Brachysomus hegyessyi is closely related to B. setiger and B. erinaceus . The structure of the 5th ventrite and male genitalia and body vestiture of B. hegyessyi resemble B. erinaceus . From the latter, B. hegyessyi differs in its thin antennae, shorter erect setae on the elytra and pronotum, denser punctures in striae of elytra, broad tibiae, strongly transverse pronotum and broad median lobe of aedeagus. From B. setiger it differs by the sparse pubescence of the female body, slight depression on the male 5th ventrite, and structure of male genitalia.

Distribution. Hungary.

Bionomics. Unknown.
