1991 Brachymetopus (Spinimetopus) subtilis Engel & Morris ; p. 129–130, pl. 2, figs. 5–7, text-fig. 5.
Holotype. AMF81910a (external mould of cephalon).
Paratype material. From FB: AMF81910b–d (external cephalon), AMF81910e (internal librigena). From ST: QMF15180a/b (external/internal cephalon).
Locality. Type—FB. Other—ST.
Diagnosis. See Engel & Morris (1991: 129).
Remarks. Brachymetopus ( Brachymetopus ?) subtilis was originally placed within the subgenus Brachymetopus (Spinimetopus) by Engel & Morris (1991). The subgenus is based on very small, poorly preserved specimens, possibly representing juvenile individuals. Br. (? Brachymetopus ) subtilis is also based on small specimens that may also represent immature growth stages. Presently, the subgenus Br. (Spinimetopus) is not based on adequate material and is therefore not considered a useful taxonomic name for the purpose of subdividing clades within Brachymetopus .
