Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed at Steffen Strait, Kavieng District , 1–25 m depth, St. T 13, on 2 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa, Seychelles, Comores and Mascarenes east to Society Islands, north to southern Japan and Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia), New Caledonia, and Tonga. Found on shallow reef crests and exposed fringing reefs, 0–3 m depth. Marine.
