Material. 189 specimens (185 C, 4 F).
Diagnosis. Kummerow (1953, p. 52).
Description. Large, very elongated carapace, subhexagonal in lateral view, biconvex in dorsal view. Overlap of the larger LV over the RV along the whole outline, pronounced dorsally and ventrally, but very slight anteriorly and posteriorly. Bow-shaped projection in ventral view. Hmax at 1/3 anterior; Lmax at 2/5 ventral; Wmax slightly posterior. Dorsal margin straight on 1/2 of Lmax in its middle part, very oblique and slightly concave posteriorly, slightly oblique and concave anteriorly. Ventral margin concave in its middle part and convex anteriorly and posteriorly, becoming more arched at its extremities. Dorsal and ventral margins almost parallel. Anterior margin slightly concave in its dorsal part to the anterior end point about at 1/3 dorsal of Hmax, and, from this point, regularly convex in its ventral part. Carapace flattened in its ventral part along the anterior margin. Posterior margin oblique in its dorsal part to the posterior end (posterior Lmax point), and from this point, convex in its ventral part. Posterior end very sharp, forming an angle of about 60°. Anterior end of the carapace clearly higher than the posterior one. Anterior part of the carapace wider than the posterior one. Surface smooth.
Discussion. A very frequent species in Givetian deposits of Europe. The collected specimens show juveniles whose outline of the carapace is different from adults, with a sharp posterior part; consequently, the carapace is slender posteriorly. The high variability within the species reported by Żbikowska (1983) was found in our specimens, with a carapace sometimes more elongated or sometimes higher, with ventral and dorsal margins straight to more or less convex, with more or less inflated carapaces and with an anterior part more or less wide.
Occurrences. Lower Givetian to Lower Frasnian (Hanonet, Trois-Fontaines, Terres d’Haurs, Mont d’Haurs, Névremont, Roux, Presles and Nismes Fms, and Fromelennes Fm, Flohimont, Moulin Boreux and Fort Hulobiet Mbs), Ardenne (Flohimont, Mont d’Haurs, Cul d’Houille, Hotton, Couvin, Resteigne, Glageon, Frasnes, Arche, Nismes, Sourd d’Ave, Aisemont and Aisne sections), Middle Givetian to Lower Frasnian (Candás Fm, mbs A, B, C and D), Asturias (Peran-Perlora section), Middle/Upper Givetian, Mouthoumet Massif (Berco Petito section); Givetian, Boulonnais and Morocco; Middle Devonian, Eifel, Ruhr and Poland.
