( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 )
Schenkling 1903a: 17; Schenkling 1903b: 26, 81.
Type species: Apopempsis pulchra Schenkling, 1903a .
Specimens examined: Apopempsis ater Pic, 1932 , Lectotype (designated here): Musée du Congo, Elisabethville, XI.1911, Miss. Agric.; Apopempsis ater n.sp.; R. Det., Y, 2224, Type ( MRAC) ; Paralectotypes (designated here): Musée du Congo, Elisabethville , XI.1911, Miss. Agric.; Apopempsis ater n.sp.; R. Det., Y, 2224, antennis ciergis, Type ( MRAC) ; Musée du Congo, Elisabethville , 13-XI-1911, Miss. Agric.; permut 1916, ex coll. M. Pic; Plathanocera atra Pic; Cotype Apopempsis ater 1932 Pic; NCBN type 2085.1 ( NCBN) ; Coll. Mus. Congo, Kafakumba , XI-1933, G.F. Overlaet; Cotype; Apopempsis ater Pic ; NCBN type 2085.2 ( NCBN) .
Comment on the type specimens: As Pic (1932: 6) made no reference to type specimens in his descriptions of Apopempsis ater , it cannot be assumed that the nominal species-group name, Apopempsis ater , was based on a single specimen. The 'type' specimen located in the Musée Royal de l’Afrique Central, Tervuren (MRAC) must therefore considered a syntype ( ICZN 1999: Article 73.2) and available for lectotype designation ( ICZN 1999: Article 74.1). Further specimens from Netherlands Center for Biodiversity Naturalis (NCBN) and Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN), are designated paralectotypes.
Apopempsis ensellatus Pic, 1933 does not belong in Apopempsis and is here transferred to Oxystigmatium Kraatz, 1899 as Oxystigmatium ensellatum ( Pic, 1933) n. comb.
Apopempsis apicalis Pic, 1932 does not correspond to the genus Apopempsis and is excluded; the correct genus placement of this species is yet to be determined.
