( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A–E)

Description. FEMALE, holotype. Total body length 515 (500–530 in 5 paratypes). Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Stylophore apunctate, 140 (140–150) long. Each medial branch of peritremes with 2 chambers, each lateral branch with 4 chambers. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield well sclerotized, apunctate, with deeply concave anterior margin. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:2–2.2:3–3.6. Setae se situated anterior to level of setae c1. Hysteronotal shield fused to pygidial shield, weakly sclerotized, apunctate, striae visible in anterior part. Length ratio of setae d2: d1: e2 1:1–1.6:1–1.3. Setae f2 3.8–5.6 times longer than setae f1 and h1. Genital plate absent. Genital setae g1 and g2 equal in length. Pseudanal setae ps1 and ps2 equal in length. Length ratio of setae ag1: ag2: ag3 1–1.3:1:1.6–1.8. Coxal fields I–IV well developed, apunctate. Legs. Setae tc"III–IV slightly (1.2–1.5 times) longer than tc'III–IV. Fan-like setae p' and p" of legs III–IV with 17 tines. Setae 3c 1.4–1.8 times longer than 3b. Lengths of setae: vi 20 (15–25), ve 45 (30–45), si 60 (55–60), se 160 (150–160), c1 175 (155–175), c2 155 (125–175), d1 100 (75–110), d2 100 (65–100), e2 90 (90–110), f1 30 (25–40), f2 130 (130–155), h1 25 (20–30), h2 400 (320–400), ag1 75 (75–90), ag2 75 (65–80), ag3 125 (125–155), ps1 20 (20), ps2 20 (20), g1 25 (20–25), g2 25 (20–25), tc'III– IV 50 (35–50), tc" III–IV 60 (40–60), 3b 50 (35–50), 3c 70 (65–85).

Type material. Female holotype and 5 female paratypes from Hirundapus caudacutus (Latham) ( Apodiformes : Apodidae ); JAPAN: Yokohama, coll. Haberer.

Type depositions. Holotype and 3 female paratypes are deposited in the AMU, except 1 female paratype in the ZSM and 1 female paratype in the ZISP.

Differential diagnosis. Apodisyringiana hirundapi sp. nov. is similar to A. mystaceae Skoracki, 2005 described from Hemiprocne mystacea (Hemiprocnidae) . In females of both species, each medial branch of the peritremes has two chambers, each lateral branch has four chambers; the propodonotal shield is with distinctly concave anterior margin; the length ratio of setae vi: si is 1:2.5–3.6, and the hysteronotal shield is fused to the pygidial shield. This new species differs from A. mystaceae as follow: in females of A. hirundapi , the infracapitulum and the propodonotal shield are apunctate; setae ve are 2–2.2 times longer than vi, and fan-like setae p’ and p of legs III–IV are with 17 tines. In females of A. mystaceae , the infracapitulum is sparsely punctate and the propodonotal shield is punctate at lateral margins; setae ve are slightly (1.2–1.5 times) longer than vi, and fan-like setae p’ and p of legs III–IV are with 8–10 tines.

Etymology. The specific epithet " hirundapi " refers to the generic name of the host— Hirundapus .
