Proposed Japanese common name: Inubuna-fukuro-kaigaramushi.
Material examined. Holotype: JAPAN, Yamanashi prefecture, / Minamikoma-gun, / Minobu-cho, Kamahitai , / on Fagus japonica , / 30.iv.2022, / coll. A. Koguchi ( ELKU) . Paratypes: same data as holotype: 6 adult females mounted singly (3 ELKU, 3 EUMJ); Yamanashi prefecture, / Minamikoma-gun, / Minobu-cho, Kamahitai , / on Fagus japonica , / 10.iv.2022, / coll. A. Koguchi: 3 adult females mounted singly (1 ELKU, 2 EUMJ) .
Description (n = 10)
Live adult female: not seen.
Slide-mounted adult female ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). Body elongate oval, 2.8 (1.8–2.8) mm long, 1.9 (0.9–2.0) mm wide. Antenna 7 segmented, 270–281 (251–289) µm long; segment lengths in µm: I, 51–55 (38–68); II, 39–40 (30– 49); III, 39–44 (30–46); IV, 50–52 (40–52); V, 20–26 (18–28); VI, 18–20 (17–28); VII, 39–42 (32–45); segments III and V without flagellate setae, other segments each with a few flagellate setae; apical segment with apical seta, 43–44 (39–54) µm long, also with 3 sensory falcate setae, longest falcate setae 22–30 (18–33) µm long; 2 preapical segments also each with 1 sensory falcate seta; falcate setae on segment VI, 21–24 (14–26); on segment V, 19–21 (10–24). Frontal lobe absent. Frontal tubercle absent. Eyes visible, situated on ventral margins. Anterior spiracles each 28–34 (25–36) µm in diameter; posterior spiracles each 30–33 (28–44) µm in diameter. Anal lobes slightly sclerotized, each with 3 (2 or 3) conical setae with blunt apices on dorsal surface, ventrally with 1 (1 or 2) flagellate setae, each 40–50 (22–62) µm long; anal lobe with apical seta 103 (98–148) µm long.
Dorsum. Derm membranous except anal lobes, smooth and without any nodulation. Marginal enlarged conical setae with blunt apices, each 29–48 (26–49) µm long, present on body margin and head apex, 2–5 (mostly 4) on each segment; other dorsal setae small, each about 4–10 µm long, sparsely present over rest of dorsal surface except body margin and head apex; submedial and medial areas of abdominal segment VI with 4 (3 or 4) dorsal setae and segments VII and VIII with 0 dorsal setae. Outer ductules of macrotubular ducts each 6–8 (5–9) µm wide; macrotubular ducts scattered over dorsal surface. Microtubular ducts simple, scattered throughout dorsum, each 4–5 (4–7) µm long. Anal ring situated on margin of dorsum, oval, slightly sclerotized, 50 (50–64) µm wide, 70 (65–85) µm long, with 2 partial rows of pores and 8 long setae; anal ring setae each 92–122 (91–122) µm long. Cauda absent.
Venter. Derm membranous except anal lobes, smooth and without any nodulation.Labium 3 segmented, combined length of apical 2 segments 89 (89–106) µm; apical segment with 4 (3–5) pairs of flagellate setae; penultimate segment with a single pair of flagellate setae; basal segment with 2 pairs of setae; stylet loop single. Legs well developed, lengths of segments of prothoracic legs in µm: coxa, 58–64 (50–70); trochanter, 42–44 (38–50); femur, 119–128 (119–140); tibia, 90 (81–102); tarsus, 112 (108–118); and claw, 28 (20–31); length of tarsal digitules 41–43 (40–49) and claw digitules, 29 (22–30); length of segments of mesothoracic legs: coxa, 64–68 (58–74); trochanter, 44–53 (40–60); femur, 121–136 (103–140); tibia, 101–103 (83–113); tarsus, 117–126 (49–129) and claw, 27–29 (20–31); length of tarsal digitules 47–49 (40–49), and claw digitules, 27–29 (18–32) µm long; length of segments of metathoracic legs: coxa, 79–80 (55–84); trochanter, 55–60 (38–60); femur, 117–134 (108–151); tibia, 105–110 (90–120); tarsus, 121–131 (118–136) and claw, 28 (24–33); length of tarsal digitules, 48 (40–50) and claw digitules, 26–29 (24–32) µm long; tarsal and claw digitules slightly knobbed; tarsal digitules longer than claw digitules; claws each with a denticle; all coxae without spinulae or pores. Tibia of each prothoracic leg with 5 (4–5) setae; tibia of each mesothoracic leg with 4 (3–4) setae; tibia of each metathoracic leg with 4 (2–5) setae. Multilocular disc pores mostly each with 5 loculi, 4–5 µm in diameter, present in relatively dense rows across abdominal segments, also with a few on medial areas of thoracic segments. Macrotubular ducts of 2 sizes, both similar to dorsal macrotubular ducts: (i) larger duct, mostly same size of dorsal macrotubular ducts, with outer ductule 6–8 µm wide, frequent throughout venter; (ii) small and narrow ducts, each with outer ductule 2–3 (2–4) µm wide, frequent throughout venter. Microtubular ducts and cruciform pores absent. Flagellate ventral setae few, present mostly on medial areas of abdominal segments, between antennal bases, and between prothoracic, mesothoracic and metathoracic coxae.
Remarks. Anophococcus koguchii sp. nov. is similar to An. socialis ( Goux 1931) in having four blunt, large, enlarged conical setae present on the body margins of most abdominal segments, cruciform pores entirely absent, and in lacking conical setae on the dorsal surface of abdominal segment VIII. However, An. koguchii differs from An. socialis as follows (contrasting character states in An. socialis in parentheses): (i) antenna seven segmented (antenna 6 segmented); (ii) macrotubular ducts of two different sizes present on venter (macrotubular ducts of one size present on venter); (iii) multilocular disc pores mostly each with five loculi (multilocular disc pores mostly each with seven or eight loculi); (iv) cauda absent (cauda present on dorsal surface of abdominal segment VIII); and (v) large pores absent from metathoracic coxae (large pores present on metathoracic coxae).
Etymology. The new species is named after Mr Akihide Koguchi, collector of the type series.
