Reared specimens. NORTH CAROLINA: Scotland Co., Laurinburg , St. Andrews University, 18.v.2016, em. 24.vi.2016, T.S. Feldman , ex Arundinaria tecta , # CSE2626 (1 adult, MLBM); 29.vi.2016, em. 15.vii.2016, T.S. Feldman , ex Arundinaria tecta , # CSE2760 (1 adult, MLBM); 21.vi.2017, em. by 27.vi.2017, T.S. Feldman , ex Arundinaria tecta , # CSE3863 (1 adult, ZFMK); Wake Co. , Raleigh, Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve, 28.v.2024, em. 17–18.vi.2024, T.S. Feldman , ex Arundinaria gigantea , # CSE9112 (2 adults, MLBM) .

Hosts. * Poaceae : Arundinaria gigantea (Walter) Muhl. , A. tecta Muhl. Adults have been collected on Panicum repens L. in Florida ( Cuda et al. 2007) .

Biology. The egg is embedded in a pit chewed in the upper leaf surface, 4–5 mm from the apex, and is then thoroughly covered with tiny leaf bits scraped from the surface ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–22 ). The bright yellow larva forms a more or less full-depth blotch mine, extending 70–77 mm from the apex and at times occupying the full width of the leaf, ultimately covering 4.75–5.75 cm 2 ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 23–26 ). Frass is in minute, elongate particles, densely packed in the apical 3–6 mm. In two of the three leaves examined, frass is well distributed through the rest of the mine, but in the other it is rather sparse. The larva collected on 18 May became quiescent on 4 June, pupated on 6 June, and the adult emerged from the leaf on 24 June.

Notes. North Carolina is a new state record; Anisostena lecontii is also known from Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia ( Staines 2015). One specimen was barcoded and is the sole representative of BIN BOLD: ADP4032 . The nearest neighbor, differing by 4.5%, is BIN BOLD: ABV1521 , likewise represented by a single specimen, which has been identified as A. ariadne (Newman) .
