Meioneta grayi Barnes 1953: 5 , f. 3–4. (Description 3). (Holotype 3 from North Carolina, Beaufort, Carteret Co., July 15, 1952, coll. R.D. Barnes, AMNH). EXAMINED. NEW SYNONYMY.

Type material: Anibontes mimus Chamberlin 1924 , 3 HOLOTYPE from Louisiana, New Orleans, June, H.G. Hubert, Cat. No. 569, ( MCZ). EXAMINED.

Diagnosis: Males and females are easily distinguished from all North American Linyphiidae by their strongly reticulate sternum, not extending between the coxae ( Fig. 593 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ) and their carapace and abdomen color patterns ( Figs 592, 595 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Furthermore the males are diagnosed by their chelicerae bearing a row of tubercles on their anterior surface ( Fig. 594 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ).

Description: Male: Total length 1.94; carapace length 0.939, width 0.63.

CEPHALOTHORAX: Carapace elongated, bright orange-yellow, shiny, coarsely reticulate; radiating lines, sides and margin suffused with gray ( Fig. 592 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Sternum bright orange, reticulate not reaching between coxae ( Fig. 593 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Clypeus height 4. Chelicerae bright orange, excavated; with row of six large seta-tipped tubercles, the last three very large ( Fig. 594 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ); promargin four teeth and no projection, retromargin without denticles but with pointed projection near base of fang. Cheliceral stridulatory organ ~75 striae, extremely narrowly spaced. ABDOMEN: Patterned, off-white with two, wide transverse dark grayish band and an apical narrow one ( Fig. 592 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). LEGS: Yellow, tip of femur, tibia and base of patella with dark gray spot; leg I total length: 3.51; leg III total length: 1.86; Tm I: 0.33, Tm IV: absent. GENITALIA: Palpal retrolateral tibial apophysis rounded, slightly rugose; dorsal tibial apophysis wide, smooth; two retrolateral trichobothria and one dorsal ( Fig. 588 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Cymbium rounded; glabrous depression absent ( Fig. 588 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ); prolateral notch shallow; dorsal cymbial tubercle pointed, smooth; ventral tubercle absent ( Fig. 589 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Paracymbium with two setae on anterior part, apical pocket medium, anterior pocket absent, posterior pocket very long ( Fig. 588 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Embolus tip rounded, broad; Fickert’s gland absent; ventral lamella reduced, pointed; thumb long, extending beyond the embolus proper ( Fig. 590 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Embolus proper set apically, not associated with the embolus tip, ventral and dorsal part about equal; with associated, large serrated process ( Fig. 590 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Anterior terminal apophysis narrow, with no protrusions; posterior terminal apophysis absent; lamella characteristica broad, curved ( Fig. 591 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ).

Female: Total length 1.91 carapace length 0.81, width 0.63.

Carapace oval, orange, shiny, reticulate; radiating lines, sides and margin strongly suffused with gray ( Fig. 595 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Sternum bright orange, reticulate not reaching between coxae. Clypeus height 2. Chelicerae not excavated, dark gray transverse band present; promargin five teeth, retromargin five denticles. Cheliceral stridulatory organ ~17 striae, well spaced throughout. ABDOMEN: Patterned, off-white with broken zigzag dark mark ( Fig. 595 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). LEGS: Same as male; palpal segments dark, palpal claw absent; leg I missing; leg III missing; Tm IV: absent. GENITALIA: Epigynum with long and narrow proximal part of scape; epigynal slits long and slender; pit hook depression small ( Fig. 566 View FIGURES 562 – 569 ); lateral lobes brief and wide; stretcher small; pit deep ( Fig. 597 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Median part of scape short; genital pores situated in the middle of the median part of scape ( Fig. 598 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ). Internal genitalia with small oval, ventral receptacula and a large triangular dorsal one ( Figs 597, 598 View FIGURES 588 – 598 ).
