Anhoraeomorphus manangotryanus (Franz) , comb. n.

( Figs 139–146 View FIGURES 139–146 )

Horaeomorphus manangotryanus Franz, 1986b: 147 View in CoL .

Type material studied. Holotype ( Madagascar): ♂,four labels:“S-Madagaskar,Col / de Manangotry b./ Ft.Dauphin / lg.Franz” [white, printed], “ Horaeomorphus / manangotryanus m. / det. H.Franz ” [yellowish, handwritten and printed], “Typus” [red, handwritten], “ ♂ ” [white, printed] ( NHMW).

Revised diagnosis. Body ( Fig. 139 View FIGURES 139–146 ) slender; head ( Figs 140–141 View FIGURES 139–146 ) round, with vertex posteriorly strongly rounded; pronotum ( Fig. 139 View FIGURES 139–146 ) subtrapezoidal, broadest near middle and anteriorly narrowing more strongly than posteriorly, with one pair of large, transverse antebasal pits; antennomeres 3–5 ( Fig. 142 View FIGURES 139–146 ) each weakly elongate, 6–10 each about as long as broad; all femora similarly slender; hind tibiae in male unmodified; aedeagus ( Figs 143– 146 View FIGURES 139–146 ) in ventral view broadest near basal third, apical region of dorsal wall in lateral view weakly curved dorsally, distolateral endophallic sclerites narrowly separated, each elongate and asymmetrical, right sclerite in ventral view with apical region bent outwards at right angle and with blunt subtriangular apex, each paramere with numerous short subapical setae distributed on distal 3/4 of paramere.

Redescription. Body of male ( Fig. 139 View FIGURES 139–146 ) strongly convex, dark brown, tarsi and palps slightly lighter; setae light brown; BL 3.05 mm.

Head ( Fig. 140 View FIGURES 139–146 ) in anterodorsal view round, broadest at eyes, HL 0.53 mm, HW 0.53 mm; length of temple in lateral view ( Fig. 141 View FIGURES 139–146 ) subequal to eye; vertex and frons confluent, together weakly convex and about as long as broad; vertex posteriorly strongly rounded; each eye large and weakly convex, nearly circular, weakly projecting from head silhouette. Punctures on vertex fine, inconspicuous; setae short, dense and suberect; frons and vertex densely covered with thick bristles directed posteriorly. Antenna ( Fig. 142 View FIGURES 139–146 ) slender but short, as long as half BL, AnL 1.60 mm, antennomeres 1–5 each weakly elongate, 6–10 each about as long as broad, 11 much shorter than 9 and 10 combined, as wide as 10, only slightly elongate.

Pronotum subtrapezoidal, broadest near middle, strongly narrowing anteriorly and weakly posteriorly; PL 0.75 mm, PW 0.63 mm. Anterior margin weakly rounded, lateral margins weakly rounded in anterior half, slightly more so in posterior half; posterior corners blunt; posterior margin nearly straight. Base with one pair of large and strongly transverse pits, sublateral carinae short but distinct. Disc with fine, inconspicuous punctures; setae dense, short and suberect, lateral surface of pronotum with dense thick bristles.

Elytra together oval, broadest distinctly in front of middle; EL 1.78 mm, EW 1.20 mm, EI 1.48; humeral calli weakly elevated, basal elytral foveae barely discernible. Punctures small and shallow, inconspicuous; setae sparse, short and suberect.

Legs long and slender, unmodified except slightly recurved fore and middle tibiae.

Aedeagus ( Figs 143–146 View FIGURES 139–146 ) slender, AeL 0.60 mm; in ventral view pear-shaped, broadest near proximal third, distally gradually narrowing and in subapical region rapidly narrowed to form subtriangular apex with broadly rounded distal margin; in lateral view apical region of dorsal wall weakly curved dorsally; endophallus with all sclerotized structures asymmetrical, distolateral sclerites narrowly separated, right sclerite in ventral view with apical region bent outwards at straight angle and with blunt subtriangular apex; parameres slender and their twisted apices slightly projecting beyond aedeagal apex, each paramere with numerous short subapical setae distributed on distal 3/4.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Southern Madagascar (Anosy Region).

Remarks. Males of Anhoraeomorphus manangotryanus belong to the largest among all species of Anhoraeomorphus and exceed 3mm in BL,but otherwise are relatively unremarkable, showing no tibial modifications. They can be identified by their unique aedeagal structures, including strongly asymmetrical distolateral endophallic sclerites, of which the right one in ventral view is bent outwards at a right angle in relation to the long axis of aedeagus.
