[ Holotype: INHS; ♀ Buck Meadows-Mather area, Tuolomne Co., California, US; March 28, 1971 ]

Andrena principalis is the type species for the subgenus Erandrena and specializes on pollen from Arctostaphylos Adanson ( LaBerge 1985) . This species was previously reported in the Coastal Sage Matorral in Ensenada, 19 mi. S. in February 1946, BC ( LaBerge 1986). The MABC team collected an additional specimen of this species (1 ♀) in Valle de Guadalupe in February 2018. See fig. 12.
