sp. nov.

A. (Ammoplanus) freidbergi sp. n.

Male. Length of body 2.0 mm. Distribution of white pattern on face as in biscopula , but spots above sides of clypeus quadrangular, higher than broad. Pterostigma in distal half with faint central cloud instead of dark colour.

Head hardly broader than high (long). Frons with shiny cross-swelling interrupted by median vertical groove, otherwise only moderately shiny, above swelling with shallow polygonal microreticulation, below swelling meshes merging with subvertical striation. No unusual pit outside of torulus (except for small tentorial one). Clypeus with subhorizontal, dorsally ¯at and shiny, subclavate median tooth which is about as long as diameter of one torulus. Clypeus laterally almost parallel-sided, submedian tooth slightly sharp-angular, distance between these teeth slightly less than between outer margins of toruli. Labrum in holotype turned down behind mandibles. Palpi slender, longer than in biscopula . Angulate anterior parts of underside outside of oral fossa ¯at and shiny. Antennal ¯agellum very slightly widening to apex, with distinct suberect short pilosity, ¯agellar segments 2±10 only slightly oblong (up to 1.16 5 1); ventrally only slightly paler than dorsally.

Pronotum rather shiny, with ®ne and shallow transverse reticulation, collar part rather long, slightly sloping and almost as long as subhorizontal neck separated by transverse groove; hardly a trace of collar edge. Mesoscutum and scutellum moderately shiny due to shallow microsculpture, punctures tiny, barely detectable. Propodeum with distinct raised areolation in median triangle anteriorly, distinct median carina and towards sides weakening transverse carinae, this sculpture becoming quickly ®ner towards rounded hind corners which are shiny and almost smooth, separated from centre by slight diagonal depressions (as in marathroicus ).

Metasoma. Sternites 4±6 form a broad united concavity (®gure 93) which begins on sternite 4 with a broadly arched transverse ridge bearing rather long semierect woolly pilosity longest on sides, at base with dense and mostly deep piliferous punctures; then on either side of sternite 5 the thickly hairy ridge continues caudad and turns towards middle on hind margin of the sixth sternite which is raised in the form of a very broad double spade enclosing the cavity posteriorly; surface of ®fth and sixth sternites rugose but di cult to see due to pilosity.

Female. Not known.

Material examined. Israel: Enot Zukim , HOLOTYPE male, 19 April 1994 (A. Freidberg and Fini Kaplan; TAUI).

Distribution. Israel.

Etymology. Named in honour of Dr A. Freidberg, the collector of the type specimen.
