Celia acutangula Putzeys, 1866b: 194. Type locality: «États-Unis» (original citation). Holotype [by monotypy] (♂) in MHNP (collection Chaudoir). Synonymy established by Horn (1892b: 40).

Celia shantzi Casey, 1918: 285. Type locality: "Akron [Washington County], Colorado" (original citation). Lectotype [as typus] (♀), designated by Hieke (1993: 140), in USNM [# 47225]. Synonymy established by Hieke (1993: 139). Etymology. The specific name was proposed for Homer Leroy Shantz [1876-1958], American botanist, professor and president of the University of Arizona.

Distribution.

This species is known from eastern Oregon (Baker County, USNM) to western South Dakota (Lawrence County, USNM), north to southeastern Montana (Powder River County, USNM), south to western Texas (Culberson County, CMNH) and central Arizona (Gila County, MCZ).
